Admissions

Admission Day Process

We strive to make our residents feel at home from day one. Studies have proven that people who know what to expect before they enter a rehabilitation facility respond better to treatment and have decreased recovery times.

Southland utilizes a unique pre-admission program for residents and their families. The process allows future residents and their families to acclimate themselves with our facilities before their stay. This pre-admission process also allows future residents to fill out their paperwork so they’ll be admitted to the facility quicker on the day of their transfer.

The entire process lasts between 2-3 hours and in that time you’ll:

  • Take a tour of the facility including state-of-the-art gym
  • View your future accommodations
  • Meet nurses and other primary caregivers
  • Learn about special programs offered by Southland
  • Receive information about insurance requirements.

Please complete this pre-admission checklist before arrival:

  • Medicare Card
  • Insurance cards
  • Medicaid card (if applicable)
  • Social Security card
  • Power of Attorney documentation
  • Advance Directives/Living Will.

What to Bring

Insurance Cards

Bring all types of insurance cards relevant to billing, including Medicaid, Social Security, and Medicare.

Clothing

We encourage our residents to dress in comfortable and casual clothing, such as sweatpants, t-shirts, or shorts. Pants with elastic waistbands are recommended. Residents should wear what they wear at home and label their clothes prior to admission.

Toiletries

Residents are welcome to bring toiletry items that make them feel comfortable. Examples include toothbrush, toothpaste, make-up, electric shavers, deodorant, etc. Please be aware that no aerosol cans are allowed.

Shoes

Residents should bring comfortable shoes designed for everyday wear. Slip on shoes are not recommended, nor are shoes with a height higher than 1 inch. We prefer each residents’ shoes to be rubber soled.

Telephones

All residents are allowed to have a personal telephone installed in their room. Residents are responsible for the cost of installation and ongoing service. Residents are permitted to bring cellular phones and portable phones are available at the nurses' desk.

Personal Items

Southland encourages residents to personalize their rooms through the use of photos, blankets, and other items. We ask that residents leave expensive and irreplaceable items (such as credit cards, jewelry, etc.) with family members or securely locked away in the facility’s safe.

You may bring one piece of furniture in private rooms. Please check with front office before bringing any furniture.

In the interest of resident safety, the following are some of the items not allowed:
